Connections

Great discussion today regarding chapter 2.  Malcolm Gladwell, you're my jam.

Critical thinking is all about a mind at work.  Making connections and thinking about how "stuff" fits together is key to academic (and frankly, life) success.

Check out some juicy bits I found:

Misty Copeland

How Sports Gave Me Swagger (my SAS)

The Confidence Gap

A juicy quote from my beloved Cheryl Strayed

Anything clicking in your brain???

  4. Something interesting that most people don't know about Bill Gates is that by the time he dropped out of Harvard, his business was already developed, and he only dropped out so he could devote more time to his business. Stay in school kids.

  5. I liked this quote from The Confidence Gap:
"Having talent isn’t merely about being competent; confidence is a part of that talent."
Really good article, if anyone didn't read the whole thing due to its length I would recommend doing so anyways! It's packed with information.

  11. The Cheryl Strayed quote is beautiful... and I can see how it connects to Outliers ;) I'm definitely gonna have to remember that quote for later.

  12. I was, and still am, amazed by the fact of men applying for a promotion when they fit 50 percent of the qualifications, and women wait until they fully qualify.
Also, aspects of Outliers are everywhere and it's impossible to NOT see the connections now. You just can't un-know this stuff.

  13. The article "how sports gave me swagger" is great and true. I love how she talked about the feeling you get after a hard exercise. "I actually hate exercising. But I love the feeling after. The sense of accomplishment. Overcoming the pain and fatigue. Pushing yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of. Not giving up. The way you do one thing is the way you will do all things." This quote relates to almost all of the things we work hard at in life. It's a real motivator

  14. Really enjoyed The Confidence Gap. It is so true- failure is essential for growth, and hesitation to take risks really just holds you back.
