I'm just a kinder person as the day goes on.
By lunch, I remember that this class is not the end all be all, so apologies if I come off as if English is the most important thing in your life. I know it isn't, but neither is History or Math or Bio. I do know, though, that if you aren't keeping up with the work you're going to have a heck of a time catching up.
So decide.
Please.
As for today, we wrote (Empty Your Cup), we quizzed (rhetorical devices), we read a Rupi Kaur piece, we got introduced to the precis. (What's that rhetorical device when you purposefully omit a conjunction??)
As for tonight, read some Milk and Honey, watch the 60 Minutes segment on the soccer player from last night, study your devices and the precis format, and dance party it up to your favorite song.
Tomorrow is another day. Another day to do better.
After all, "when we know better, we do better."
Love and Light,
Beltran
Today's Song: Smokey Robinson "I Second That Emotion"
Loved the empty your cup piece. Felt good to write it all down
ReplyDeletethat's my favorite Maya Angelou quote (out of the ones that I know)
ReplyDeleteHonestly LOVED "Empty your Cup" it was much needed. Plus this is the one homework that i'm actually trying to get done and am excited to do it.
ReplyDelete"Rusty tricycle on a NASCAR track"
ReplyDeleteGood lesson today. Emptying my cup was a really helpful way to get some stress out and let go of it all
ReplyDelete"Confidence was the one word gospel, according to Mark." How iconic. That will not be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteReady for another TED talk tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteI really really enjoyed "emptying my cup" today, I guess I needed to. My mom keeps her copy of "Milk and Honey" at work with her, so she's bringing it home for me. I'm really excited to start reading it, I've been wanting to for a while, but I just haven't gotten around to it.
ReplyDeleteI already danced to my favorite song and it already improved my mood. Thank you for the dancing homework, it was needed. :)
ReplyDeleteReality check
ReplyDeleteNot all days are going to be good, and this one was not great. I am looking forward to improving in your class from now on!
ReplyDeleteI'm not the biggest soccer fan, but that 60 minutes video on Christian Pulisic was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteAsyndeton is when you purposely leave out a conjunction! #gains
ReplyDeleteThis kid is amazing! Here's the link for anyone who wants to watch it. https://www.cbsnews.com/videos/the-young-american/
ReplyDeleteExcited for the TED TALK tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Mikey, never have thought soccer to be my personal favorite sport but the 60 minutes video was inspiring and very cool to watch. Insane that he has claims like, "Possibly the best player to ever come out of the US" and that he is still a teenager and did the "dab" to celebrate his first goal.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed “emptying my cup,” it was definitely needed!
ReplyDeleteWish I had more time for “Emptying my cup”, I really enjoyed writing about myself!
ReplyDeleteI have truly never been in a class that has challenged me so emotionally in less than six weeks. I absolutely love literature, and I assumed this was going to be a fun piece of cake. Boy, was I wrong. Not only is it so difficult to balance this class with other classes and outside life, but it makes me realize that the only competition I have is myself. I am no longer that straight A student I was so proud of. I am now any other struggling PLHS student, who has to prove themselves from scratch. That is very scary to me, but I know I can do it. Potential is worth nothing if it is not shown.
ReplyDeleteI read a ton of the poems that popped up when I searched for milk & honey, and they were so good! I''ll be buying the book soon. I'm grateful for our homework assignments and ready for the TED Talk tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteChristian .... what a successful, good looking kid. $8 mil a year and only 3 years older than us!?
ReplyDelete"Empty your cup" was so much fun today. Righting down something (or things) your stressed about really helps to put it in perspective and provided me with some much needed clarity. I'm already excited for the Ted Talk tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lesson today. It was really refreshing to write everything down. Can’t wait for the TED talk tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the idea of “emptying your cup” I was glad I tried it out because it’s not the type of thing that usually takes place in a “normal” class and I ended up enjoying the time to write.
ReplyDelete"emptying my cup" was a very great way to let out all of your thoughts and emotions on that single sheet of paper. I really enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteWow Christian Pulisic (the soccer player from the 60 minutes video) is such a talented and inspirational guy! At age 16 he signed to play professional soccer in Germany... really makes me feel like a slacker.
ReplyDeleteEven though we emptied our cups today, I find mine very much still full. Nice to get things off the mind though! Nice pancake reference during 4th, made my day.
ReplyDeleteCant wait for tomorrows ted talk.
ReplyDeleteWow...to think that Christian could go to another country and compete against grown men who number among the best in the world, at my age. It's absolutely mind numbing to try and think about how difficult that must have been. But obviously he thrived under the pressure.
ReplyDelete"I'm just a kinder person as the day goes on." . . . wish I could say that for myself.
ReplyDeleteI felt so good writing my empty cup today and it open my eyes that I need to work harder
ReplyDeleteThank you for that lesson today. It makes us really think about why we take the classes we take.
ReplyDeleteEmptying my cup was much needed. I used to try to do something siniliar each day but haven't been doing it because of how much work we have this year! Felt so good to just write again.
ReplyDeleteIt was great writing today and emptying my cup
ReplyDeleteI'm SUCH a fan of this writing exercise, I hope we do it a lot. I spent dinner ranting about how amazing the 60 minutes piece was. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteMade a lot of connections to the 60 Minute segment.
ReplyDeleteToday was rough to say the least, but I'm glad I am getting valuable learning the hard way rather than monotonous work that consumes time rather than uses it effectively. Another reality check.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting 60 minutes video on Christian Pulisic. I have never seen or heard of an American making such advances so young in his career. He scored his first goal at our age and is in the running with Messi's performance at 19 years old. Wow! Truly mind blowing.
ReplyDeletemilk and honey- page 21
ReplyDeleteWow Christine Pulisic is amazing and very talented! He’s 19 and he’s already a millionaire.
ReplyDeleteEmptying my cup made me feel some type of way
