WE READ

Today in class we discussed the expectations for Independent Reading and the reasons why we read.  In addition, you completed a quick write of your reading profile (see me if you were absent).

You can find the article Ms. Meier referenced here as well as access the Semester One Reading list aqui.

We will continue our reading discussion tomorrow so PLEASE think about the book list and show up to class with whatever book you are currently reading.  Books can change you.  Books can change the world.

Y'all have a great Wednesday and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Love and Light,
Beltran

  2. As soon as my 4th period ended today, I went straight to the library and picked up a copy of "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck. I can't wait where this year takes me as a reader and how my vocabulary is going to grow.

  4. After today I realized how important reading is and It really motivated me to actually want to read a book instead of finding a way around it.

  5. This lesson really changed my perspective on fiction reading! It totally makes sense how these fictional books can make you more empathetic. Can't wait to see how these new books will change my life.

  6. What hit me the hardest today was the part about ignorance. I find ignorance to be so utterly unattractive, and of course I would at least try to be less ignorant.

  7. I was about to pick up a copy of "The Old Man And The Sea" today but, before I left my Dad told me he had a copy gifted to him by his friend when he was younger. I'm excited to read a book that captured his imagination all the way back in 1987!

  8. Reading the book list for the semester, I saw so many books that I've wanted to read for years. I'm really excited to stop procrastinating with other books and finally pick them up!

  9. During the quick write today I was thinking to myself about how great reading books were when I was younger and then about a good reason that I stopped doing that. When I couldn't
find one I decided that I should start reading fun books again. I can't wait to read amazing books this year and see how not only I change but the rest of the class as well.

  10. I started to enjoy reading at a young age but today I learned the importance of it and I couldn't thank you enough for opening my eyes. Im excited to expand my reading genre throughout the year so I'd also like to thank you for guiding me to some great books. I read the summary of each one and hope I finish them all by the end of this semester. Over the summer I read To Kill A Mocking Bird and I 10/10 recommend it to everyone!!

  11. I just finished reading The Pearl today and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good short read. I did find the book to be sad but it contains a good lesson to be learned. I also think a lot of people who read this can empathize with the main character Kino.

P.S. Paul Walker looked like John Steinbeck.
