SAS Tomorrow and Emails

Our first SAS is tomorrow.  I cannot wait!!!  And thank you for listening today - coachable?  Or not?  I'll be reading what you wrote and (hopefully) checking emails tonight.

I'm not a brute or a bully.

I'm just a teacher who wants the best for each of you.

Love and Light,
Beltran

  1. Thank you for today's lesson. I think the way you addressed our bad habits is the best way for us to improve and change them.

  2. Thank you so much for wanting the best for all of us, I believe all of us are coachable, just some of us easier than others, but i believe you can do it.

  3. I looked up the lyrics for the song you played in class today. I wanted to try to find the reasoning as to why you chose that song for today's lesson. While going through the lyrics the chorus is what stood out to me, especially the first part.
"Look out baby 'cause here I come
And I'm bringing you a love that's true so get ready
    So get ready"
To me this is your way of saying that we all need to be prepared with open hands in order receive the crucial lessons this class has to offer. And that we need to get ready because there is more to come. Thank you for another great song.

  4. I'm excited for the first SAS tomorrow; I enjoyed having an excuse to get lost in the wormhole of National Geographic for a while and find lots of interesting stories!

  5. A bit nervous for SAS tomorrow but also really looking forward to hearing about what everyone else will talk about! YAY

  6. Todays intervention really helped me to realize that I wasn't exercising my full potential in the class. I can't wait for the rest of the year and for SAS tomorrow!

  7. Today's class really opened up my eyes on what I should really expect in this class. I definitely "checked myself" and I am going to try my best to bring IT to class every day!

  8. Sounds like some serious business went down in your classes today! So excited to hear how tomorrow SAS will go!

  9. Class today was intense but I'm happy that you addressed this topic because it made me really think about not only what I want in this class but all my classes.

  12. Thank you Beltran for the early wake up call in the year. It's refreshing knowing a teacher wants you to succeed not just right before the grading period. Your lesson today really made having open hands more accessible. I know this now because the more you critic us, the better you want us to be and grow.

  13. Today really showed me the kind of student I am vs the kind of student I really should and want to be. Today was a great intervention. Also, I'm very nervous for my SAS tomorrow, but at the same time I'm looking forward to it

  14. I listened to what you were saying today with open hands and I realized that I need to stop acting like a normal student and start acting like the student you want us to be.

  15. Today was a reality check for what is to come. I now can better understand what is expected and needed in order to succeed.

  16. Today was a... rude awakening but I'm glad you taught us it. It really broke my (and many others) misconceptions that this class would be easy just because we got to determine our own grades. I'm sure I and many others will work more to bring the best we have to the table.

  17. I realize I have to change the way i think in your English class and honestly i am OK with this change.

  18. Miss you already Beltran!! I miss our fun SAS from when KJ talked about keys and locks, all the way to when JD talked about the different types of grass!

  19. Thank you for helping me realize that I need to bring more to the table. Can't wait to learn this year! Thank you!

  20. I feel this class will not only be challenging because of the material, but also because it affects us personally. We rarely hear honesty, since our parents tell us since we are young that we are unique and born for greatness. Yet, like Maya Angelou said, we are more alike than different. I cannot wait to see what this class has in store for me.

  21. Thank you Beltran! In the short couple of weeks I have been in your class I have already started to see the world in a different way. Already I have begun to be curious about what I don't know and whenever I discover I don't know something I do my best to find out.

  22. I love walking around campus having the class of 2019 telling me about how amazing this class is. I miss it so much already. Can't wait to hear the stories of the first SAS of the 2017-2018 school year!

  27. I am ready to be coached and taught things the right way

  28. I'm glad we talked about what we should be doing in class today. I'm ready to start forming the habits I should have to be successful in your class and in life in general.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  31. Today helped me open my eyes a little because it's our choice to be a great student and that is what Mrs.Beltran wanta from us. And I'm kind of excited to present tomorrow because my essay/SAS took me a good amount of time to make.

  32. Doing a SAS example today for your class, was such a throwback! I already miss doing them every Friday, I hope everyone has as much fun doing them as I did last year!

  36. Not sure what the stuff will be in my sas tomorrow but after today's class, I am sure ready to start
    researching!

  37. Thank you for telling us the truth about how harmful our habits will become if we don't change our ways now. I intend to turn myself around and go in the right direction in order to learn as much as possible this year.

  44. I'm so motivated by what you said today and I'm happy to have a teacher that truly has no intentions to be the brute in the neighborhood. I am so thankful for today's wake up call. It's time for us to get out of our "know it all junior" circle-thingy's and I think we all get that now. Thanks for calling us out.

  45. Today's talk in class was pretty awesome. You were real and straight to the point. Not many teachers are like you Beltran and i'm glad to have been put in your class. Thanks for not being afraid to point out the flaws in all of us and most importantly, myself.

  46. Look at all the comments!!! Good luck on SAS tomorrow!

  47. Today's lesson opened my eyes and you taught me how to be an ap student and not just a regular student. I will hopefully consume the knowledge you give us with open hands and I can't wait to learn.

  48. Remember to warn them to be careful when including the Zodiac K in SAS around holloween...

  49. Being able to look at myself (like actually myself, not my academic self) with a critical eye is an opportunity that I will not take for granted. Thank you so much Beltran for today, I think I understand what my expectations for myself are this year.

  50. As soon as I came out of class today, my first thought was, "wow that was rough." But of course, I realized that I was just falling right back into my circle thingy like you said we would. So thank you for opening the pathway for me to open my eyes and my hands. My small lego hut can only grow from here. Thanks for a great lesson today Beltran

  52. Only the third week and already slipping into bad habits, so thank you for the reality check. As you said before, there is always more work to be done.

  53. Honestly, it isn't an easy adjustment from prior English classes to this one. I know we will keep making strides toward what you expect from us this year and I'm ready to fill my lego bin with the pieces necessary to succeed in this class, college and beyond. Definitely a wake up call I needed to become more involved in the class.

  54. Today was a total change of perception. My brain needs to reorganize itself, and what better way to do so than with SAS. Looking forward to it.

  55. With the talk we had today I really noticed what type of student I was and what type of student I should be and what I have to do to get there.

  59. Really excited to see what people come up with. I think it's really important to learn from peers as well as teachers because it helps us understand each other better (a la Passports to Understanding).

  60. The whole point of this was to shake us from the insecurities and problems we had when first accepting this class fully, and I couldn't help but feel it as well. I'll be able to push on from this with high hopes.

  61. I'm so excited for SAS tomorrow, yet also kinda scared out of my mind. Hopefully everything goes well!! Have a good night!!

  64. Todays lesson was a real wake up call. I am prepared to bring IT, and view everyday as an opportunity to be better than the day before academically and as a whole.

  65. You said today that every class is full except one, that one having only a single seat empty. 36x5=180 180-1=179 but only 61 comments published at the time I'm sending this?

  66. Excited to present tomorrow and to keep improving on my speaking skills
