Tuesday: Deepak, Elizabeth Gilbert, Bill Hayes, Mind Meltdown

What was today anyway?  Were we here or there or nowhere?  At any rate, it's over there now and we are here now but now is then and then is tomorrow and what is real?  Ahhhhh.

Here's the link to the TED Talk.

And here are the books...I should probably adjust the picture but I kinda like it all sideways and hanging off the edge - sort of symbolic if you ask me...

I'll see y'all tomorrow for another experience.

Love and Light,
Beltran

p.s. - I will email winners with gift options...I'm just being lazy.  Four day weekend and all..

Happy Four Day

Thanks for participating today...I appreciate the effort especially right before a 4 day break.

I hope you are able to relax and enjoy some time away from school...I'll see you Tuesday for a TED Talk and another week of learning.

xoxo,
Beltran

P.S. - Room 853, a room full of "sassy but classy" students, is a place where even grammar can be fun.

Positively in Love with Appositives

First off, tomorrow: grammar and style lesson (Beltran version) focused on appositives.  Do as much (or as little) research as you want but know that we will be competing in teams...I would make sure you know what an appositive is, how you punctuate them, and their rhetorical and stylistic strategies.

Secondly, read this juicy NYT article and learn.  Even if you don't like Beyonce, I'm sure you appreciate learning. (If the link doesn't work - I'm a subscriber - you can google the title "What Beyonce Won Was Bigger Than a Grammy".)

I will also be on the prowl for journals and Prom Dress notes tomorrow...

Love and Light (and Watergate),
Beltran

TED Talk Tuesday

Boyd.

Varty.

LOVE.

Check out his TED Talk and embrace his message.  It's a good one.

Tomorrow be ready to have a class discussion on Ortiz Cofer's piece.  I will have talking points for class so prep your brains.

And, in case you are interested, here's an interesting analysis of Beyonce's Grammy performance.

Happy Valentine's Day,
Beltran

Choosing Scarlet Over Pale Pink

Woo hoo...some outside the canon literature.  Whaaaaat? Do you know what a literary canon is?  At any rate, thanks for the open hands.  I can't wait to discuss this piece with y'all on Wednesday...

Make sure you share and review the chart I showed you in class (period 2, you copied it down).

Tomorrow we will be watching a delicious TED Talk...so be ready.

Love and light from a Latina,
Beltran

Cheerio

Y'all have a great weekend and enjoy your two days away from the hallowed halls of PL.

Please check out yesterday's blog post for the work/text needed on Monday.  We have a four day week next week (woot woot) so be ready to laugh, learn and light up the world with intelligence and kindness.

Super shout outs to those of you who presented today (and especially those of you who just made me laugh).  Much appreciated.

Be safe, be well, and know you are loved.
Beltran
